With Mother's Day fast approaching, so many of us are thinking of sending some flowers to our moms! If you are going to splurge - seek out varieties that are grown locally and organically. The application of toxins and chemicals used to grow fresh flowers can pollute water systems. By buying organic flowers you are reducing the amount of pesticides used to grow flowers. Consider - if all roses purchased for Valentine's Day were organically grown, it would prevent the use of 22,700 pounds of pesticides - equivalent to the weight of a giant Hershey's Kiss more than 10 feet tall!
